With around 800,000 visitors and pilgrims a year, the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer is one of the most important pilgrimage towns in Germany. In the centre is the Chapel Square with the Chapel of Grace and the image of the Virgin Mary ‘Comforter of the Afflicted’. Surrounded by St Mary's Basilica, the Candle Chapel and other sacred buildings, Chapel Square radiates a soothing calm and atmosphere.
